Monte Ozol and Monte Ori between Trentino and South Tyrol

Route with an ascent along the Maddalene mountain range and a return through woods and small villages little known to mass tourism.

The recorded route starts from Revò, climbs steeply to the summit of Ozol, then with pleasant ups and downs gains further altitude up to Monte Ori di Brez passing through the Brez pass. After passing the alpine huts of Ori di Brez and then Lauregno, the return happens halfway up the western slope of the two mountains, passing first through the evocative village of Tregiovo and then along the new Rankipino ramp-pedestrian trail.

Author’s recommendation
The Lauregno alpine hut is an excellent base for lunch or a snack.
The route crosses several times the border between the province of Trento and Bolzano; a keen eye will notice the landscape and cultural differences between the two provinces.

The route starts from the village of Revò and climbs through the streets of the village up to the Sabbionare locality from where a forest road begins that leads to the summit of Monte Ozol (1565 m) with a very steep ascent.
From here, with a slight descent, it passes below the summit of Monte Nuovo and continues to Giovàt di Cloz and then to the Brez pass. On trail 5 it climbs up to the Brez alpine hut (1845 m) and then, on trail 114, up to the Lauregno alpine hut. Once at the latter, the route gradually descends on trail 28 eastwards, which leads again near the Brez pass.
It now proceeds on asphalt road up to Maso Aussern in Lauregno (BZ) where trail 31 begins, which in a short time, through lush woods and green pastures, leads to the evocative village of Tregiovo (TN), nestled among forage meadows. Leaving the village towards Revò, follow for about two kilometers the provincial road 28 until, on the left in a hairpin bend, the Rankipino ramp-pedestrian trail begins. This is a new route made along the path of an ancient water channel and is therefore totally flat in the section up to the Cloz sports field. However, it is abandoned after about 5 km, after crossing woods from where you enjoy incredible views of the Val di Non and Sole valleys, until reaching again the Sabbionare locality and finally the village of Revò.
