They’ll tell you that higher up, on the Vigolana’s rocks, you may see chamois. But as soon as you get to the Rifugio Casarota you’ll get to know Duca and Principe, two beautiful alpacas belonging to Lorenza Delama, the woman entrusted with running the refuge by SAT (Association of Trentino Mountaineers, the owners). At 1,500 metres above sea level, the forest opens up and there are views over the Altopiano di Lavarone. This is the place for exploring the wilder sides of Vigolana or just relaxing on the large terrace with its splendid views.

Walks
It’s a two-hour walk from Rifugio Casarota to Rifugio Paludei (difficulty EE), while the ascent to Becco di Filadonna along the Vallon delle Mandre takes 1 hour and 40 minutes (difficulty EE).
