Facing the lower Val di Non and the Brenta Group, the cathedral stands on the spot where the three Evangelists Sistino, Martinio and Alessandro from Cappadocia suffered martyrdom, on 29 May 397. Of the former church, commissioned by Prince-Bishop Johannes Hinderbach and built in 1472 on the spot where the relics of the martyrs had been buried, just few ruins remain, including the majestic Romanesque bell-tower. Over the centuries, it has been undergoing several refurbishing works, and today it shows a definite Gothic-Renaissance style.
The Romanesque-Renaissance portal was built in 1542 and bears a fresco of the Madonna with the Baby and the Three Martyrs in the lunette. Indoor the cathedral features Gothic style, a Latin cross shape and three aisles divided by eight white stone columns. The apse boasts a pentagonal shape, and the main marble altar by Domenico Taliano of Rezzato, dating back to 1771, houses a painting by Gianbattista Lampi featuring the martyrs. The four Gothic bas-reliefs of the early 16th century, which portrayed the three saints' death and used to decorate the cathedral, can now be visited at the Diocesan Museum of Trento.
