This route is highly appreciated for the absence of technical sections and the relative safety of the slopes it runs on.

    Author’s recommendation

The itinerary is exposed southeast. On mild days the surface layer of snow melts and then freezes at night. In mild weather it is easy to find icy stretches which are more easily tackled using crampons.

It is recommended not to park right next to the houses of the Matzlaun hamlet but rather in the roadside clearings, even if this means walking short stretches along the road for approach and return.

    Safety information

Please note that the practicability of the itineraries in a mountain environment is strictly linked to the contingent conditions and is therefore influenced by natural phenomena, environmental changes and weather conditions. For this reason, the information contained in this page may have changed. Before leaving for a tour, make sure the path you will approach is still accessible by contacting the owner of the mountain hut, the alpine guides or the visitor centres of the nature parks, the info offices of the local tourist board.

    Roadbook

Skis can be put on just above the houses of the hamlet of Matzlaun. You ascend a first meadow until you reach the forest road. Here, depending on the conditions, you can choose to follow the forest road or cut across by ascending another meadow. You now continue on the forest road up to the Proves - Stierberger Alm hut.

You continue to the left beyond the hut and cross a small valley. You now ascend the valley with a gentle slope except for the last short stretch before a small plateau at the foot of Cima Goldlahn. You continue in the center of the valley paying attention not to get too close to the slope on the right. The slope increases until it emerges on a second small plateau at the foot of Cima Lavazzè.

From here you face the last ramp to reach the summit, from where you have a wide panorama of Val di Non and Val d'Ultimo. In front of the summit stands the rocky Olmi peak and at its feet in the distance you can see the Malga Val refuge.
