From Pozza to the waterfalls in Val San Nicolò

A timeless classic for MTB enthusiasts: steady climbs, varied terrain and postcard-perfect alpine scenery, leading all the way to the spectacular waterfalls of the San Nicolò stream.

The ride begins from &#34;Piaza de Comun&#34; square in Pozza, following &#34;Strada de Meida&#34;, which becomes &#34;Strada Ruf de Ruacia&#34;, until you reach the bridge (&#34;Pont de Garneté&#34;), near the Soldanella restaurant. Just before the bridge, take the dirt road on the right that climbs along the left bank of the stream. The initial ascent is gentle, but gradually steepens, with a short series of switchbacks. The trail then flattens out again and joins the Val San Nicolò road, just below the Malga al Crocifisso restaurant. At the chapel, keep left and continue pedalling on asphalt: the route alternates smooth stretches with longer climbs, eventually leading out of the forest into the &#34;Saùch&#34; area. Turn right into the wide clearing and follow the &#34;dei Rusci&#34; dirt track, which winds through the forest along the left bank of the stream. The route is varied, but never too demanding. At the fork, take trail no. 641 for a few metres, then turn left onto a track that crosses the woods and opens out onto the pastures of upper Val San Nicolò. The panoramic view embraces the ridges of Costabella with Cima Uomo, the jagged Col Ombert, and - looking down the valley - the towering &#34;Maerins&#34; cliffs, framed by the Catinaccio massif.<br />You rejoin the main dirt road: one final cobbled climb brings you to the Baita alle Cascate mountain hut, set against the backdrop of the enchanting waterfalls born from the San Nicolò stream. It’s the perfect spot for a refreshing break and a few memorable photos. To return, follow the dirt road from Baita Ciampiè mountain hut, which gradually transitions into asphalt. Dotted with huts and hay barns scattered across the meadows, the valley still breathes its alpine soul - enduring through the passage of time and the hardships of the Great War.<br />Now, a long and satisfying descent back to Pozza awaits.
