Long loop itinerary in the heart of the Maddalene group passing through Cima Belmonte
A route along the border between Trentino and South Tyrol, between Val di Non and Val d’Ultimo, offering picturesque views as well as excellent refreshment opportunities.
A long but very varied itinerary, unique for the diversity of environments it presents: from larch and fir forests to high-altitude meadows rich in rhododendrons. It takes place in the heart of the wild Maddalene mountain group and touches four mountain huts in this historic alpine pasture area.

From the parking lot, follow the signs for Malga di Cloz that lead above the tunnel to cross it and reach the dirt road (trail marker 8), which in a few minutes takes you to the sunny Malga di Cloz, recently renovated. From here, start ascending following trail marker 7, which passes by the abandoned Malga Poiol/OberAlm and continues (now trail markers 7/10) over open slopes up to the junction with trail marker 10, which you follow towards the ridge. Crossing beautiful alpine meadows and passing next to a ruin, continue up to the saddle where there is a splendid view over the Val D’Ultimo. The route then continues along the ridge, where careful walking is required, and finally leads to Cima Belmonte/Schöngrub (2461 m).
Returning to the saddle, follow trail marker 22 located on the South Tyrolean side of the mountain, then trail marker 23 which leads to the pleasant Spitzner Alm, where the cheerful atmosphere and tasty dishes will ease your fatigue. From the mountain hut, continue following trail marker 23, first road then path and again road, which on false flat, passing through meadows and larch forests, leads to the Gampenalm. From the hut, following trail marker 24 crossing some streams, you reach the dirt road that crosses the pastures of the Malga Castrin. From here, trail marker 133 first, and then trail marker 8, lead you back to the parking lot at the tunnel in about 15 minutes.
