Designed for experienced riders, this 59 km route with 2,070 meters of elevation gain offers a pure Alpine Gravel experience. Though relatively short, it compensates with steep climbs and demanding terrain. Predominantly gravel (76%) with short portage sections, the route challenges riders with tough ascents and technical descents. Starting from Cavareno or Fondo, the route climbs to Lake Tret, traverses the dramatic ridgeline overlooking the Adige Valley, and descends to Passo della Mendola before climbing to Malga Romeno beneath Monte Roen. The final descent follows winding forest roads that demand focus and confidence.

    Tips and suggestions

A true mountain tour with unique views of the Adige Valley and challenging technical sections.

    Roadbook

From Cavareno, you cycle towards Fondo, taking the cycle path that passes under the road and crosses the village of San Felice, then climbing up to Lago di Tret. A rapid descent takes you to Malga di Fondo, before tackling a tough climb towards Macaion, with significant gradients that will test your legs and resistance.

From the summit, the descent offers incredible views, leading towards Lago Smeraldo and passing next to the rock gym. You climb back up to Regole di Malosco, taking the ancient Sentiero del Lez, an almost flat panoramic stretch that leads to Passo della Mendola.

From here, you continue towards Rifugio Mezzavia and Malga Romeno on a long forest road, tackling one of the most challenging stretches in terms of gradient and length. The final descent takes place on flowing dirt roads through the woods to Amblar-Don, closing a highly technical and panoramic route.

The cost of the "Single journey + FTM BIKE supplement" ticket is € 5.00 and covers both the passenger and the bicycle for all sections of the FTM railway – it can only be purchased on board the Trento-Malè railway trains. The service is free (passenger + bicycle) for Trentino Guest Card holders. Seat reservation for bicycles is not available on trains. On intercity buses, bicycle transport is possible but is limited to the available space in the luggage compartment, where the bicycle must be placed by the traveller. It is therefore necessary to ensure that there is space. The availability of spaces varies and depends on the type of bus; on average, the transport of up to 2 bicycles is possible. Only standard single-seat bicycles are allowed.
