Rio Caino ethnographic path, the power of water for ancient crafts

A suggestive place: walking it means getting to know the history of the people who have lived here for centuries and discovering the genius and hard work of ancient crafts and extinct trades.

A comfortable walk that begins by crossing the footbridge over the Chiese River where you can observe artifacts related to old trades, such as the ancient smithy for ironwork or the old mill. A fairy-tale and enchanting world, continuing with the Witch's Garden, where science, history, and magic merge: it seems that Brigida, one of the best-known witches of the Valle del Chiese, who actually lived around 1470, was also one of the most expert in medicinal plants. A story shaped by the turmoil of the Great War, when the slope the trail runs across was occupied by the Italian army. Rio Caino, in fact, lies in a strategic position from which it was possible to keep watch over the bridge across the Chiese River. Along the path, reminders of that time still remain: a small wheeled cannon and several concrete trenches built by Italian soldiers.
