The chance to come across a bear face to face on this short itinerary is remote indeed! However, you will have the chance to see one from close-up if you visit the Parco Faunistico of Spormaggiore, our tour passing nearby. At Sporminore we take the “Via Imperiale” and all is really well-signposted as we cross the foothills of the Brenta Dolomites and find a series of single trails which pass by Castel Sporo and the mysterious “Bus de la Spia” cave until we reach the valley floor of the Sporeggio river. At this point, we bikers must go uphill to the centre of Spormaggiore and it is here that the Fauna Park is located. The circuit is completed by the downhill at Maso Milano and then uphill again at Sporminore and poassing by Campodenno.

    Roadbook

We set off from the church in Sporminore and take the “Via Imperiale”, passing by the supermarket in a southerly direction. On Via Castel Sporo we pass by apple orchards and the heliport. Ahead of us we can see the ruins of  Castel Sporo. A little further on we pass by the Bus de la Spia cave on our right and come to a junction. We turn left here. The way soon becomes a single trail, winding way above the valley, again in a southerly direction. We speed up downhill until we reach the valley point of the Sporreggio torrent, and here it is that that there is a steep climb to Andalo. We, however, keep to the left and pedal hard to Spormaggiore. Passing by Le Seghe we come to the centre of the village and need to look for signs to “Parco Faunistico”. This reserve is located a little above the centre of the village in a south-easterly direction. It is well worth stopping to visit the Reserve. With a little luck you will be able to see bears and wolves.

When ready, we turn back to the centre of Spormaggiore and take the subway under the main road, Via Trento, (positioned at the school and the gym). The path continues downhill through the apple orchards which extend as far as fino  Maso Tre Tini. We come out on a steep private but accessible road, which we follow to the right and which brings us downhill to the Baita Marnara, where horse are reared, and to Maso Milano. Passing by the latter we go to the left on the busy main road in the direction of Crescino. We stay on the main road for just about 500 metres. We do not take the first road  we come to, to Sporminore, but as soon as we see the turning to our left to Campodenno we slow down and take this road, and leave the main road behind us. Just near Dercolo the road splits and we keep to the left (in the direction of Sporminore). After 300 metres we leave this road and proceed to the right in the direction of Campodenno. Passing uphill through the orchards we can take almost any path as they all come out at more or less the same point, and are pretty much the same in their gradient. The asphalted roads are certainly a lot more comfortable to bike on, whilst the private but accessible roads are steeper. In the centre of Campodenno we turn to the left and take the main road towards Sporminore, passing by Lover. For those who prefer not to cycle on the asphalt and have some energy left, then on reaching the crossroads for Campodenno, it is possible to go up to the wood margins and where we come to the path of the “Dolomiti di Brenta Bike”. We then take this path to the south, passing along paths and trails in the woods until we get back to our starting point.

A normal type mtb is fine. For the steep downhills you will need to have made sure beforehand that your brakes are working well.
