Val di Cembra and Pinè route
This route is well known among cyclists from Trentino who want to combine the beauty of the landscape by cycling through the vineyards of Val di Cembra and breathe a bit of the air of cycling champions like those of the Moser family and Gilberto Simoni. The route, starting from Trento, also crosses the Rotaliana plain, the Pinè plateau, and the upper Valsugana, ideal for discovering the central-eastern area of Trentino.
<p>A route that starts and ends in Trento crossing the hills above the Rotaliana plain, the Val di Cembra, the Pinè plateau, and the upper Valsugana. From a landscape perspective, the panoramas are very varied and different among the various valleys. The climbs faced are 4 and all are manageable even with a moderate fitness level as they are not very long. Also, the altitudes are not particularly high (all below 1200 m a.s.l.), which makes the route passable already from early spring with the first warmth and until late autumn. It is still recommended to have a good endurance, meaning having already done some long rides, since the route is almost 90 km long with an elevation gain of 1650 m. The iconic climb of this route is the "<a href="https://www.visittrentino.info/it/guida/sport-estate/salite-da-mito/campionissimi-pal-di-giovo_tour_18098915">salita dei Campionissimi</a>" which wants to recall the feats of the champions of the Moser family and Gilberto Simoni, all from Palù di Giovo, the village located at the top of this climb. Among the 4 ascents, the Sover climb also deserves mention, with an average gradient of 9%. </p>

As you can imagine, the rideability of routes in a mountainous environment is strictly linked to the current conditions and therefore depends on natural phenomena, environmental changes, and weather conditions. For this reason, the information contained in this sheet may have changed. Before leaving, check the status of the route, verify weather reports, and get information at tourist offices.
Roadbook
The route starts in the historic center of Trento and after leaving it you head to the cycle path running along the embankment of the Adige river until meeting the mouth of the Avisio river and then reaching Lavis. After crossing the town center, you head to the hills to the north where the vineyards of Nosiola and Chardonnay wines are cultivated. Here you enjoy a breathtaking view of the Rotaliana plain cycling through beautiful Masi (rural houses). After about 4 km you arrive at the junction where the sign indicates the locality Sorni, a lower hamlet. From here begins a descent with several hairpins leading down to the intersection with SS12. Paying attention to traffic, you ride less than 1 km before re-entering a municipal road that leads to the center of San Michele all'Adige. This is the starting point of the first real climb of the day: the "salita dei Campionissimi". The climb is about 6.5 km long with an elevation gain of about 450 m, making it quite challenging. There are 2 junctions on the climb and it is important to always follow the signs for the village of "Cembra". At the top of the climb near Ville di Giovo, you descend towards Verla and continue towards Cembra then proceed to Faver. From here starts the descent towards the bottom of Val di Cembra crossing the Avisio river (the same river encountered before arriving in Lavis) on the Friendship Bridge and here the road immediately starts climbing the other side of the valley to return to the area of Segonzano, a famous village for its "earth pyramids", the result of combined erosion actions of running water on the soil of the surrounding mountains. After passing these particular geological formations, you continue northeast climbing the road up to Sover. From here starts the third and penultimate climb, which takes you to the Pinè plateau. The first part of the climb is quite demanding (9% average) although not very long (3 km), then the road continues on a false flat up to Brusago, the first village encountered on the Pinè plateau, and from here a long descent begins. The first part of the descent has a very low gradient, running alongside the Piazze and Serraia lakes up to Baselga di Pinè. From here you follow the road heading towards Trento and the gradient increases. After the second hairpin turn, turn right and take Provincial Road 104 of the "Quadrate" which leads to Civezzano after crossing the hamlet of Torchio. After crossing the center of Civezzano, you face the last challenge of the day, the short "salita dei Forti" that literally goes through an old Austro-Hungarian fortification before reaching the summit of the climb a little higher. From here begins the final sprint downhill towards Trento passing through the settlements of Cognola and S. Donà to then reach the starting point in the center of Trento.
