One hundred years after its birth, the Mart pays tribute to Riccardo Schweizer, a painter, sculptor, architect and designer from Trentino who has created works characterised by vibrant colours and dynamic shapes. The exhibition explores his creative universe through a thematic path that highlights the different areas of his production, highlighting his contribution to the artistic landscape of the twentieth century and his link with the territory.
Born in 1925 in the mountains of the Primiero, a free and curious spirit, Schweizer has interwoven international experiences and Alpine roots, approaching the great masters of his time, from Pablo Picasso to Le Corbusier. After the figurative beginnings of the 1940s, marked by a strong attention to everyday reality and the Trentino landscape, the artist deepens his research on the sign and colour that led him, in the 1950s and 1960s, to confront the European avant-garde.
Painter, sculptor, architect, designer, decorator and ceramicist, he embodies in an exemplary way the figure of the modern artist capable of measuring himself with different languages and of moving between apparently distant worlds, between local roots and international horizons.
In the Renaissance rooms of what was the first home of the Mart, the exhibition traces the different seasons of the artist's research: from the first figurative tests to abstract results, from ceramics to large wall decorations, up to architecture and design projects. The hundredth anniversary of the artist's birth becomes an opportunity to present a wide range of works from public and private collections: paintings, sculptures, ceramics, drawings, architectural projects and furnishings that document the extraordinary variety of Schweizer's production. Through about 100 works, the exhibition gives back to the public the richness of a creative path that ranges from art to design, through architecture and communication. A journey through intense colours, dynamic forms and a constant tension towards the synthesis between art and life.
