Trentino Open: A Destination Designed for Everyone Accessible landscapes, inclusive experiences and barrier-free discovery across Trentino

Trentino believes that travel should be open to everyone. Across the region’s lakes, valleys, museums, trails and mountain experiences, accessibility is not an add-on, but a guiding principle. Through the Trentino Open programme, destinations and services are designed to welcome travellers with different abilities, offering meaningful and memorable experiences in nature, culture and sport. Whether your passion is outdoor adventure, slow travel, food and wine, or cultural discovery, Trentino can be experienced in many ways, without barriers.

Alpe Cimbra and Valsugana: Nature at a slower pace

In Alpe Cimbra, accessibility extends across biking routes, trails and accommodation. With trained staff - including dedicated assistants from the local tourist office known as ‘Angels’ - mountain guides and a wide range of accessible hotels, residences and mountain refuges, stays are designed to be both comfortable and enriching.

Active year round, the Scie di Passione ski school offers inclusive summer activities such as hand biking, trekking with a joelette and guided high-mountain experiences.

Nearby in Valsugana, accessible hikes, museums and art experiences invite visitors to slow down and enjoy the mountain environment. One standout example is located in Arte Sella, the outdoor art museum. On the trail leading to the Tree Cathedral near Malga Costa - an open-air contemporary art installation made entirely from natural materials, most works are reachable by wheelchair.

In Dolomiti Paganella, the Cappuccino Tour cycling route offers joelettes, hand bikes and electric tandems, while guided tours of the medieval village of San Lorenzo Dorsino are accessible with specialist aids. For those seeking adventure, aperi-climbing sessions at the Forgotten Crag introduce climbing with alpine guides trained in supporting people with disabilities.

Val di Fiemme and Val di Cembra: Sport without limits

Crossing Passo Rolle brings visitors into Val di Fiemme and Val di Cembra, where accessible activities are developed in collaboration with organisations such as SportAbili and the Fiemme Fassa Inclusive Sport Association.

Selected trails are suitable for wheelchair users, and electric wheelchairs can be requested by members of SportAbili. Visitors can cycle along the Dolomites Cycle Path using hand bikes or tandems or try rafting on the Avisio River - an activity adapted for people with motor disabilities using special seating and qualified instructors.

The area also offers accessible wineries, which can be contacted in advance to ensure visits are tailored to individual needs.

San Martino di Castrozza: Barrier-free nature discovery

In the Paneveggio Pale di San Martino Natural Park, accessibility extends into protected natural landscapes. A reservation joelette service is available from Villa Welsperg, located at 1,000 metres in Val Canali and accessible by car.

From here, the Muse Fedaie Trail offers a scenic and barrier-free walk through local biodiversity, beginning near Lake Welsperg.

Val di Fassa and Val di Sole: Culture, views and outdoor adventure

In Val di Fassa, the Ladin language and culture remain a living part of daily life. The fully accessible Ladin Museum offers insight into local history, legends and traditions. For one of the Dolomites’ most iconic panoramas, the Sass Pordoi cable car provides wheelchair access to the Terrace of the Dolomites, suspended between peaks and sky.

In Val di Sole, outdoor activities range from gentle to adventurous. Rafting is accessible to people with motor or sensory disabilities and requires no prior experience, with bookings available through local rafting centres.

Val di Non and Val Rendena: Inclusive landscapes and community experiences

Val di Non combines the natural beauty - from the colourful Lake Tovel to spring apple blossom - with accessible cultural attractions. Castles such as Castel Valer, Castel Coredo and Castel Nanno are open to visitors, with guided tours available for blind and visually impaired guests, using detailed historical descriptions to recreate the atmosphere.

In Val Rendena and Madonna di Campiglio, inclusive experiences are offered through the ‘Feel the Mountain’ project. Activities include accessible dawn yoga (suitable for blind and visually impaired participants), sensory foraging experiences and other customised outdoor activities. The area has also hosted the Brenta Open inclusive event for over a decade.

Several walking routes - including sections of the Cammino di San Vili, the Patascoss–Nambino Trail, and the ‘Path for Everyone’ in Val Daone - are suitable for people with visual, motor and sensory disabilities.

Garda Trentino: Inclusive sport by lakes and mountains

In Garda Trentino, sport truly has no limits. Cycling, water sports and climbing are all accessible thanks to dedicated services, adapted equipment and specialist instructors. An extensive network of cycle paths winds through olive groves, vineyards, villages and forests, offering scenic routes suitable for different mobility needs.

For cycling, ReMoove provides rentals of e-bikes, cargo bikes, tricycles and tandems, making it easier to explore independently. On the water, kitesurfing becomes accessible through the Alto Garda Kite Club, which offers specialised equipment and qualified instructors for people with motor disabilities.

Garda Trentino also hosts inclusive sporting events. The Bike Festival in Riva del Garda (early May) welcomes both beginners and expert cyclists, while Rock Master in Arco - the world’s oldest climbing competition - includes dedicated paraclimbing events.
