Dro

Dro’s architectural style is typical of the upper part of Lago di Garda, with distinctive portals, arches, medieval towers and irregular street patterns. Its atmosphere seems untouched by the passing of time.
Typical town in the valley of River Sarca, Dro is particularly renowned for the production of Vin Santo and plums. Its landscape is characterized by a distinctive glacial phenomenon called marocche, actually the largest expanse to be found in Europe. Marocche is a vast mass of rocks with huge blocks, which gives the area a stunning desert-like aspect. Dro is one of the most ancient towns in the valley of River Sarca, with a number of shrines, including the deconsecrated church of S.S. Sisinio, Martirio and Alessandro, the Roman bridge of Ceniga and the Baroque Church of St Antonio.
For almost thirty years Dro has been hosting Drodesera Theater Festival, one of the most important theater summer events. Theater activity is very vibrant in Dro, whose Drodesera Fies festival was awarded as best festival in 2007 by Associazione Nazionale Critici di Teatro. The shows are held in the hydroelectric power station in Fies, which is one of the most remarkable examples of industrial architecture in the area.
Dro is an excellent location for hiking and mountain-biking, as well as climbing and free-climbing.
