Lake Garda

A lake that offers a thousand opportunities to have fun rocked by the wind
  • Windsurfing, sailing, canoeing
  • Relax on the wide and long beaches
  • Cycling on the bike trails

Location

We are between Trentino, Lombardy and Veneto, on the largest and most important lake in Italy, which stretches over an area of 370 square kilometers and is 350 meters deep. To the north, it narrows into a funnel, to the south, it widens; its northern shore is in the province of Trento and includes the towns of Nago - Torbole, Riva del Garda and Arco.

What to do

Thanks to its Mediterranean climate, which only on this shore is perfectly combined with its Alpine counterpart, the Trentino portion of the lake is for many the most beautiful and evocative, thanks to the evident landscape contrast between mountains and vegetation. In fact, though we are already surrounded by mountains that are over 2,000 m high, we find olive and lemon trees blooming on the lake shore.

Those who dream of spending a holiday here can choose from many opportunities. Sailing, windsurfing, mountain biking, climbing, canoeing and scuba diving are among the most popular sports practiced in this area. Many local sports clubs organize courses and international sporting events.

Sailing and windsurfing enthusiasts rely on the Ora, the wind that routinely blows here every day; those who prefer the thrill and vertigo of climbing find spectacular cliffs suspended over the water, real natural rock gyms.

White sand beaches serve instead as realms of relaxation for those who only look for rest, sun and quiet.

Those who want neither lounge nor practice sports can take the ferry to Riva del Garda or Torbole for an excursion on water, admiring the landscape and other lake areas while being comfortably seated.

In Riva del Garda, you can also stroll and enjoy a Middle-European charm in the town’s well manicured center, overlooking Piazza 3 Novembre, with the Town Hall dating back to the 13th century and Palazzo del Pretorio dating back to the 14th century, then walk up to the lakefront and finally visit the Civic Museum inside the Rocca fortress.

How to get there

If you arrive by car, on the A22 Toll Motorway, exit at Rovereto Sud - Lago di Garda Nord, then drive 17 km until you will reach the lake. Coming from the north, you exit at Trento centro and continue on National road SS 45b for 40 km to Riva del Garda.

Those who prefer the bus can get direct connections from Trento, Rovereto, Verona, Desenzano, Peschiera and Venice.

Finally, those arriving by train from Milan or Venice can get off at Desenzano, Peschiera or Verona and continue by bus.
