Lake Molveno - Deep deep blue

A natural oasis away from the city, surrounded by the Dolomites
  • Relax on the shores of Lake Molveno
  • Trek in the Brenta Dolomites Nature Park
  • Discover the lake by canoe and stand-up paddleboarding (SUP)

Location

We are within a majestic natural setting comprising the Brenta Group mountain range, and the Monte Gazza and Paganella massif, precisely 40 kilometers from Trento. Lake Molveno is an Alpine lake of natural origin that in 2021 was named Italy’s most beautiful lake by Legambiente and the Italian Touring Club, for the quality of its waters, beaches and services. The town of Molveno, which was awarded the Orange Flag by the Touring Club, is to the north of the lake.

What to do

Writer and poet Antonio Fogazzaro, a frequent visitor to the lake, called it a “precious pearl in a most precious treasure chest”. And, in fact, it is truly a small gem, both for its physical shape and for the activities that can be carried out here in total tranquility.

Families will find a real beachfront resort amidst the mountains, with 12 hectares of beach, English lawns and many play areas, sandboxes and minigolf for children; and more, the Acqua Park with slides and water games, the Playa Park miniclub and the pump track with a skill area for kids who learn to ride mountain bikes.

Sports enthusiasts can choose from windsurfing on the lake, a game of tennis, a boat or pedal boat trip, a canoe outing, a stand-up paddleboarding course, a swim in the Olympic-size pool or a walk along the lake's shores.

Finally, in a twenty-minute drive from Lake Molveno, we find the Spormaggiore Wildlife Park, which houses Trentino animals such as brown bears, wolves, owls and lynxes, to spend a day discovering local fauna.

How to get there

If you arrive by car from the south on the A22 Autostrada del Brennero toll motorway, you must exit at Trento Nord, then continue towards Mezzolombardo and follow the signs for Fai della Paganella, Andalo and Molveno (you will arrive after 25 kilometers). If you are coming from the north on A22, exit at San Michele all'Adige and follow again the signs to Mezzolombardo, then Fai della Paganella, Andalo and Molveno (25 km).

Those who prefer traveling by bus can get to Mezzocorona from Trento on line 751 and, from here, get to Lake Molveno with line 611. Other lines also allow you getting to Molveno: on the Trentino Trasporti website you will find more accurate timetables and routes.

Finally, those who travel by train, can get to Trento and take the “Trento-Malè” train to Mezzolombardo; from there, you must then take the bus connection to Molveno.
