Location

Lake Ledro has a narrow and elongated shape and is located 655 meters above the sea, 15 km from Riva del Garda. It is one of the most beautiful and clean lakes in Trentino and its 10-km circumference allows long walks.

What to do

Lake Ledro is famous above all for the discovery of an expanse of Bronze Age pile dwellings on the eastern shore, in 1929, after waters receded during the construction of the Riva del Garda hydroelectric plant. It is a Neolithic village dating back to 4000 years ago, which has been a UNESCO heritage site since 2011.

The pile-dwelling site, close to the Museo delle Palafitte di Ledro (Ledro Pile Dwellings Museum), in Molina, is the most important pile-dwelling site in Europe as concerns extension and conservation: here, you can visit an accurate reconstruction of the Neolithic village with huts on stilts, whose interiors have been furnished with objects and artifacts from the Bronze Age. It can be visited from March to June and from September to November, with paid admission.

In addition, you can take a bath in (on hot summer days, the water reaches even 24 degrees), and canoe, windsurf, sail, swim and fish on the clean and clear lake waters tinged with an iridescent turquoise color.

There are 4 public beaches for those who want to relax at the lake: in Pieve di Ledro, Molina di Ledro, Pur and, finally, Mezzolago. If you have a pet in tow, the Pur beach, located on the southern shore of the lake, is also pet friendly.

Finally, those who love running, cycling or walking can do so along the entire perimeter of the lake: this is one of the most popular walks for beauty, distance and elevation gain, almost all passable on a dirt trail.

How to get there

Those traveling by car can exit at Rovereto Sud, take the Garda National road and, once in Riva del Garda, cross the tunnel leading to Valle di Ledro.

By train, you have to get off at the nearest train station, which is Rovereto, and from there continue by bus, which runs daily to the lake.
