Casa del Vicario di Avio
A symbolic place of the city. Historians believe that a first masonry building was erected in the thirteenth century. Notable are the Roman milestones that marked the way of travellers.
Overlooking the ancient path that connects the Pieve to the Castle, the Casa del Vicario, in the district of Vigo, houses the municipal Antiquarium and is a symbolic place for the entire Avio community. In fact, the museum exhibits important archaeological finds, such as the Roman military remains that marked the path of ancient travellers and two funerary inscriptions dating from around the first half of the first century A.D. In the municipal Antiquarium, not to be missed are the testimonies of a Roman settlement and the passage of the Via Claudia Augusta Padana, one of the most important connecting roads between the heart of the Roman Empire and the domains of Northern Europe. Consisting of two distinct buildings - the house of tithes and the vicariate seat – the House of the Vicar of Avio dates back to 1200.
