Selected alternatives for you

This variant slightly lengthens the route with a descent and then a challenging ascent. It is especially suitable for those starting the stage from Fondo and allows you to see the Tret waterfall from below within a natural gorge.

    Safety information

The Way is well marked, with the presence of the yellow stylized seashell symbol and various tables indicating the way. It follows ancient paths connecting small villages and ancient routes that led to shrines that were pilgrimage destinations. There are short sections of roads with low vehicular transit.

As you will imagine, the viability of routes in a mountain environment is closely linked to contingent conditions and thus depends on natural phenomena, environmental changes and weather conditions. For this reason, the information in this sheet may have changed. Before setting out, find out about the status of the route by contacting the manager of the huts on your route, mountain guides, nature park visitor centers, and tourist offices.

    Roadbook

On reaching Tret, after passing the last houses of the village, the road becomes dirt and branches off into two small country roads: to the right is the upper lookout, and to the left, the lower lookout at the base of the waterfall. The small road on the left, which descends to the foot of the waterfall, first skirts some meadows, then crosses a fir forest until it reaches a small clearing. From here the path descends rapidly with a series of steps and then follows a level path to the base of the waterfall. A small wooden bridge is the ideal spot, to admire this wonderful waterfall that has a drop of as much as seventy meters and incredible power when the stream is in flood. Continuing on, the trail, which at first, skirts downhill along the overhanging rock, then begins to climb in the middle of the woods until it rejoins the direct route coming from Tret.

    Equipment

Anyone who sets out on the trail and wants to get to his or her destination without any problems should wear a good pair of comfortable shoes, preferably with a sculpted sole (Vibram type) and with ankle protection (hiking type of footwear), but in which the foot is firmly in place to avoid blisters or, worse, risk a sprain. It is also a good idea to equip yourself with a walking stick (or better yet, telescopic poles) to help you on your way, especially on some of the more challenging steps.
