Among the four stages, this is the most challenging!

    718 m
    2,281 m
    1,817 m

This is the longest and most challenging stage of the entire crossing due to its length, but once you reach Passo Binasia, the path continues mostly flat. Moreover, along the way, you encounter 3 well-maintained and recently renovated bivouacs.

    Author’s recommendation

Malga Bordolona Alta is a brand new refuge with great attention to the hospitality of hikers. The managers of the malga are the same as those of Agritur Bordolona Bassa, located a little further down the valley, famous for its cheese and cured meats.

We recommend those who have time to spend an extra night and let themselves be pampered by the atmosphere of Malga Bordolona Alta.

    Safety information

There are no refreshment points along the route, so you need to stock up on food at Rifugio Maddalene before departure.

    Tips and suggestions

Be careful in case of bad weather or fog, as it is a high-altitude and little frequented path, there is a risk of losing orientation.

    Roadbook

The path starts uphill and leads to the eastern ridge of Monte Slavazzaie and from here descends to the Forest Bivouac in Cemiglio locality.

It continues staying at the same altitude and reaches the beautiful Masa Murada bivouac, at the foot of Lake Poinella. The path then gently rises crossing the ridge of Cima Binasia up to the homonymous pass.

The Bonacossa path gently descends in the direction of the Binasia bivouac and then continues on flat ground through the rhododendrons to the brand new Malga Bordolona Alta.
