The ‘Landesschützen’ Trail B51 – The Great War Itineraries
A military trail commemorating the 21st Company of the 2nd Landesschützen Regiment which, flanked by a unit of Alpine guides, began guarding the Val Nardìs valley in 1916.
A journey that takes you not only across rocky landscapes and breathtaking views, but also back in time, into the silent memories of the Great War. This historical route runs through the upper Val Nardìs valley and commemorates the stationing of the 21st Company of the 2nd Landesschützen – Kaiserschützen Regiment on 16 January 1917, which had already began guarding the valley on 16 May 1916. The operation was supported by a group of Alpine guides, who provided their extensive knowledge of the terrain. The trail starts in the locality of Mandra Travarsèra and leads to the Seyfriedhütte, commonly known as ‘Plan da li barachi’ (Plain of the barracks) – a strategic location, that once housed the Nardìs Subsector Command Post. The route then continues to Baito Tamalè, another advanced military outpost. Along the way, the landscape bears witness to the conflict, with the remains of military bases, shelters and artefacts blending into the natural environment.
