The last stage leaves behind the wild mountain group of the Maddalene returning to the valley and peeking among the typical wooden farmhouses of Val di Rabbi.

    Author’s recommendation

There are no support points along the last stage of the Bonacossa crossing, so it is better to stock up on food at Malga Bordolona.

The Bonacossa path ends in the locality Val, in Rabbi. From here you must continue descending along the paved road leading to the village of San Bernardo di Rabbi.

To return by public transport to the starting point, Passo Palade, you need to plan a series of changes:

    1. bus from San Bernardo di Rabbi to Malè
    2. local train from Malè to Dermulo
    3. bus from Dermulo to Fondo
    4. bus from Fondo to Passo Palade

For this reason, we recommend arranging a taxi service that comfortably takes you back to Passo Palade.

    Safety information

There are no refreshment points along the route so you must stock up on food at Malga Bordolona Alta before departure.

    Tips and suggestions

Be careful in case of bad weather or fog, being a high-altitude and little frequented path there is a risk of losing orientation.

    Roadbook

From Malga Bordolona, you climb to the nearby Palù Pass and from here the path continues always downhill.

It reaches Malga Palu, unmanaged, and continues through larch woods until you meet the first farmhouses in the characteristic locality of Stablum. It descends further among the houses and reaches the small group of old mostly abandoned farmhouses of the locality Val.

From here you must keep descending along the paved road that leads to the village of San Bernardo di Rabbi.

Everything needed for an alpine-style crossing. In addition to boots, poles and backpack, you must carry the necessary equipment for a possible bivouac overnight in case of bad weather.
